Too pricey for what you get. They don't last and fail quickly all around the removable diamond and are more expensive. 1 sheets work just fine.-The detail sanding pieces are a good idea, but these fail pretty quickly as the plastic velcro melts off rendering them useless (the sandpaper stays stationary because the pieces won't grip) This is after about 10 min of use.Gel pads don't really add anything but price.Have to get another sander to finish. I used this to refinish a dining room set. If you're looking to do a lot of sanding than invest in a more durable sander. 3 thin plastic pieces hold the sander to the body and they won't hold up to extended use. Worked decent until after I finished the chairs the thing broke. I wasn't rough with this thing either.-Don't buy the name brand sanding pads.
Better off getting a Dewalt orbital and hand sanding what you cant reach. Sand paper can end up costing alot more. for large tasks this mouse in under powered. Corner sanding doesn't work well.
Anyone with weak fingers, or tackling a job more than 5 minutes long would be annoyed with the muscle fatigue caused by the leverage issues, constant shaking (common with all random/orbital sanders), and poor grip location.Suggestions:------------a) give up engineering. The ergonomics of relying on hand strength instead of just a well centered palm-grip is flawed to user fatigue from the beginning.Whoever engineered this tool was clearly unaware that it was intended to be USED. Palm effort means nothing to this sander.
This leaves excessive leverage between the hand/palm gripping surface and the front of the accessory pieces. Why is this a problem. There are two problems with this sander.1) the attachment point for the accessory curved-sanding pieces attaches to the front tip of the sander.
because you can NOT hold/push the sander without gripping with the fingers. :pb) move the sanding surface UNDER the grip, not infront of it.AND c) move the accessory mount to the CENTER of the sanding pad instead of the front.Overall, just a poorly designed tool IMO. For example, my unit lasted about 1 hour of sanding about 30' of baseboard trim before the accessory and the mount it screws into ripped off of the sander.
Ruined.2) the palm grip is BEHIND the center of the sanding surface.
BUT if you do much work you will need replacement tips because after awhile the tip pad will no longer keep the velcro sandpaper in place. As for price of sandaper and jury rigging new tips, guess I am an industrious shopper as I find resonable priced sandpaper and replacement tips( bought 4 at one time)So I like this mouse and it is lots easier then folding and messing with sandpaper and doing it by hand and using little dental picks.though I still use them a little. I refinish lots of furniture old doors and windows and I love this thing. Easy enough to do. would buy this again defineatly. I strip as much as I can with paint stripper then use my Porter cable sanders( i have 5" and 6" randon orbital sanders) then use the Mouse for finishing. It works fine.
This is so rare today. So all said, I am unusually happy with Black & Decker. I came to find out that Black & Decker had dealt with the issue but for some reason I had never received their response. Companies seldom put as much emphasis on maintaining happy customers. you'll get MUCH better results on the toll-free phone number than in e-mail). While I am very pleased with this mouse sander itself, it's easy to use and much, much easier to handle than a full-size vibrating sander, I was very unhappy to discover that in place of the nice two-handled canvas bag pictured with it, what I received was a very small nylon bag not even large enough to accommodate both the sander and the included supplies.
I wrote to both Black & Decker and to Crazy Dave's about the problem without a peep of response from either. Every time I have had occasion to contact them, problems have been resolved absolutely to my satisfaction. Silent inflation strikes again. and I am delighted to report that not only are they sending me a NEW HandiSaw but they are also sending me the bag for the mouse sander which was pictured in the promotional ad. My tools will continue coming from Black & Decker. You can't simply remove $5.00 or more in value from a product and expect customers to just accept it happily.
